The Desperation Band, which was birthed out of the student ministries of Colorado Springs’ New Life Church, has recorded five critically-acclaimed albums including their self-titled debut, From the Rooftops, Who You Are, Everyone Overcome (also available as a DVD) and their latest, Light Up The World. They also have been featured on two New Life recordings, 2006’s My Savior Lives, and 2008’s Counting on God. Their albums, all recorded live at New Life, appear on the Integrity Music label and feature high-energy, passionate new worship songs that convey the hunger of their generation for God.
The band was originally formed in 2001 when New Life launched a youth movement for local churches called Desperation. Today, thousands of high school and college age students who are desperate for a deeper walk with God, gather for Desperation summer conferences, tours and internships. And the Desperation Band is an integral part of the worship that takes place at these events.
Led by the church’s Youth Worship Pastor Jon Egan, Desperation Band is made up of several committed musicians who lead worship during New Life’s regular weekly services and also at concerts and churches around the country.
Desperation is best known for writing songs like “Rescue,” “I Am Free,” “My Savior Lives,” “Overcome,” and more. Many of these songs have been covered by other bands and churches, the most notable being the Newsboys’ recording and performing of “I Am Free”. Desperation Band’s songs are sung in churches throughout America and around the world.
The band believes that true change comes when people lay aside their agendas to encounter the true and living God. They are passionate about the presence of God and they don’t hide it. They are well aware that music will never impact souls…only the power of God. They don’t perform or entertain. They want to join with real people to worship a real God. The Desperation Band exists to advance His Kingdom and to pray as Jesus told us… “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
“The Desperation Band has always been and always will be about the presence of God. We exist to bring Him glory and reveal His truth to a broken world. If we know who His is, we know who we are. If we know who we are, we can live as God meant us to live. Its all about His purposes.”
