Songs From the Soil releases their debut self-titled album

New album “Songs From the Soil” seeks to unearth the unique sounds and stories of the UK Church

Songs From the Soil introduce their self-titled debut album titled “Songs From the Soil,” a project that centers on cultivating a garden of songs from and for the UK Church. The new album presents 10 homegrown worship songs from a community of various British artists, songwriters, and worship leaders. “Songs From The Soil” is marked by a raw musical feel, filled with folksy sounds and acoustic-led songs.

As a community, Songs From The Soil was birthed from a desire to hear the UK Church sing her own songs again. Recognizing and celebrating the gift of the wealth of international songs the Church has, this new album seeks to rebirth a particular local sound, story, and unique part to play in God’s great symphony.

A standout song from the release, “Send the Rain,” articulates the core message behind this project, as community founder Steve Harding explains:

“We are connected to those around us, we come from and belong to a place, and together we tell the story of God in our time and place.”

This song gathers the Church around a unified prayer for revival and regeneration, as Northern-Irish singer-songwriter Nathan Jess adds:

“There is a line at the end of the bridge that gives voice to the tension [in which we live]
as it climaxes back to the chorus just asking, ‘Could it be right here and now?’ There is
a beauty in that tension and a real rallying cry for the church to be able to sing.”

The hope behind these songs is for them to pastorally care and prophetically challenge the Church, as well as inspire the people of God to write their own songs. With this debut album, Songs From the Soil speak into the heart of culture, creating fresh inspiration to cultivate the beauty of local worship.
